ALC Enable Releases Study Focused on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the United Kingdom Executive Search Industry

ALC Enable, the business solutions consultancy enabling the future of the executive search industry, today released its study “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in UK  Executive Search Firms” providing a view regarding how the UK executive search industry is performing in attracting diverse talent to a rapidly expanding industry.

Tim Connolly, Founder of ALC Enable shared, “Whilst the executive search industry in recent years has been more dynamic at pushing the diversity and inclusion agenda for its clients, it clearly needs to get its own house in order as a priority. Ironically, diversity and inclusion within the search industry itself is lagging considerably behind the businesses it serves. The influence that the executive search and leadership industry can have on DE&I more widely should not be under-estimated. If executive search firms had more diverse teams, particularly within its  leadership, then the natural consequence would be less unconscious bias and more diverse  slates of candidates for clients.”

While the study focused on executive search firms across the United Kingdom many, if not most,  of the UK executive search firms are domiciled in the London metro region, a geography that is far more diverse than the areas outside of London. Thus it is somewhat surprising that firm diversity profiles were not far more diverse than perhaps one might believe.

The study was carried out in the second half of 2021 by aggregating data from readily available information in the public domain. The study makes a number of assumptions regarding gender diversity as well as ethnic diversity correlated against LinkedIn profiles and executive search firm websites as the study gathered data from publicly available information on the diversity profiles of firm leadership such as partners and managing partners.

“Many of our mandates since 2020 have been focused on supporting executive search firms in attracting top talent that better represents the demographic makeup of our country today, Tim  Connolly said. “And we view this as a very positive development in terms of being able to better serve the needs of the clients of executive search firms today and tomorrow. We have to do better to be able to credibly meet those needs”.
